I’ve been freelancing full-time for nearly two years, and it’s been the most liberating and challenging experience of my life so far. Being a freelance writer is something I’ve wanted to do since I decided to pursue writing at 14, and I’ve not looked back.

However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sold a small dream about what freelancing is really like.

If you’re thinking about taking the plunge, here are 5 pros and cons to consider before going freelance:

Pros:

1) You can earn more money

This is the single biggest pro to being a freelancer, as you can earn more than working in a permanent role. Although it can feel intimidating to charge clients on your terms, as long as you’ve done your research and don’t rip people off, you can do incredibly well financially.

2) You can take as much (or as little) time off as you want

Although I think this statement should be taken with a pinch of salt, you do have complete autonomy of your working day. So, if you are bad at early starts (like me) then you can plan your day to fit with your rhythm. Equally, if you’re having an off day, you have the…
